Chicken Dinner

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) – Georgetown Police say they responded to a Walmart parking lot after shoppers reported chickens left in a car.

Animal Control officers say 12 chickens had been in the car while the owners shopped for about 30 minutes, according to WKYT-TV in Lexington. 1 of the birds died. The rest were taken to a shelter.

Officers say the windows of the car were open just a crack. The National Weather Service says the high temperature yesterday in nearby Lexington was 94 degrees.

Authorities say the car had North Carolina license plates.

Georgetown Police say any charges against the owners will be up to Animal Control.
