I live in a little town, and our Walmart isn’t a Super Center but it’s all we’ve got. I was working there one evening when a black woman came in and began piling things into a cart. This woman was very polite and we exchanged friendly conversation the entire time I was scanning her items. She then asked me where our hair care products were. I pointed her in the direction as I continued to scan her items. She came back shortly thereafter, and it was like someone had flipped a switch because she was no longer friendly and polite. She said, and I quote, “You mean to tell me you don’t have no black people’s hair products?” Because this is a small town and a small Walmart, we don’t have absolutely everything that a Super Center would, so I explained this to her. She proceeded to angrily state how she didn’t agree with that and couldn’t believe how racist Walmart was, and how she’d never shop there again. She also said that if she didn’t have a cart full of items, she would have just left without buying anything.
