AIKEN, SC — A man who has run afoul of the law in Grovetown and North Augusta for approaching women in Walmart stores and asking them to let him smell and kiss their feet has been arrested again … this time in Aiken.
The incident happened last Friday around 12:30 p.m. at the Walmart store on Richland Avenue, in Aiken.
Joey William Leaphart, 44, of Langley, is accused of touching a woman’s leg in the store, then placing already chewed gum between her foot and her flip-flop sandal, causing her to step on the gum, according to Lieutenant Carl Odenthal, with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
The victim reportedly told officers that Leaphart came up behind her while she was checking out.
He then reportedly reached down and touched her calf, police said.
The victim told officers that Leaphart got closer, smiled and said, “I need to get my gum. It rolled under your foot”.
The victim reportedly told Leaphart to “back off”, but he was persistent in trying to retrieve the already-chewed and stepped on gum, she told officers.
The victim said Leaphart just kept smiling while standing behind her and walked away toward the store’s Garden Center when she told him she would call police.
Leaphart has been charged with 3rd Degree Assault and Battery and Trespassing/Entering Premises After Warning.
