A pregnant Harrington woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon inside a Camden store after she drove there with her children while intoxicated and became belligerent, police said.
When Camden police officers arrived about 2:15 p.m. at the Walmart off U.S. 13, they found several store employees trying to calm down Melanie A. Acree in the women’s restroom, said Capt. Gary Melvin.
Acree, 36, of the 2000 block of Vernon Road, who is about seven months pregnant, was visibly intoxicated with her two young daughters in tow, Melvin said.
When she left the restroom, Acree allegedly continued cursing and being combative. She was handcuffed and arrested.
Melvin said officers later learned that Acree drove to the store while intoxicated. They couldn’t charge her with DUI because they did not see her in the car, police said. The children were turned over to their father unharmed, Melvin said.
Acree was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of disorderly conduct. She was later released on $2,250 unsecured bail pending a hearing in Family Court.
