The Truck Shooting

Topeka police arrested a woman Thursday night after she allegedly fired a gun outside a south-side business, striking her boyfriend’s truck, authorities said.

Officers responded about 6:45 p.m. to the Walmart Supercenter, 1301 S.W. 37th, in connection with a report of an assault.

Upon their arrival at Walmart, officers found the victim, described only as a white male.

Lt. Scott Gilchrist, of the Topeka Police Department, said the man reported his girlfriend had followed him to the store and fired a handgun, striking the truck in which he was an occupant.

Gilchrist said Cindy Escalante, 28, of San Diego, was located a short time later and arrested in connection with aggravated assault and domestic criminal damage.

She remained early Friday in the Shawnee County Jail.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
