A Carbon County man used a mirror to peek at three men sitting on a toilet next to his stall Sunday afternoon in the restroom of the Walmart in Mahoning Township, police said.

Anthony Mistretta, 48, of Nesquehoning was charged Monday with three counts of invasion of privacy, a misdemeanor, for the alleged offenses at the Walmart on Route 443.

Mistretta admitted sneaking the looks in the men’s room after one of the other men noticed the mirror, chased Mistretta and called police, police said.

The man first suspected something amiss when he saw Mistretta’s feet, police said.

“When he went into a stall he noticed that the male using the stall next to him was standing with his feet in an unusual position,” Mahoning officer-in-charge Audie Mertz said.

“While using the toilet [the man] looked up and observed a male watching him,” Mertz said. “The male offender was using a round mirror with a blue edge to view [the man] over the top of the stall divider.”

The man yelled and chased Mistretta out of the restroom about 2:45 p.m., police said. As Mistretta ran, he tried to hide his mirror on Walmart’s display shelves, but he took the mirror back when he saw the man chasing him, police said.

The man wrote down the license number of Mistretta’s fleeing car and relayed the information to Nesquehoning police, who called Mistretta to the borough police station, police said.

Mertz and Nesquehoning police Chief Sean Smith talked with Mistretta, who initially said he was in the restroom only five minutes and someone surprised him there by calling him a pervert, police said.

Mistretta changed his story after police told him that Walmart security video showed he went into the restroom at 1:49 p.m. and was chased out at 2:45 p.m., police said.

He then admitted peeking at three men in the restroom and he told police he tossed his mirror along Route 209 between Lansford and Nesquehoning, police said.

Police said they went to that area and recovered a mirror with a blue edge.
